Hyundai Elantra steps back

Hyundai motor announces termination of the production of its luxury sedan Elantra. The company officials say it is making way for better model to accommodate the space.

The reason they quote for this move is that the segment that occupied Elantra was very small. The monthly sales accounted for 2000 cars only. The entry level sedan from Hyundai could own only a very minor share of it.

Though it was launched four years back, Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla swallowed the segment, setting Elantra behind. By dropping back current model, the company will be working on the launch of revised Elantra in its place.

The MD of Hyundai Motor India said that they will also be reworking on the strategy for Sonata, the premium luxury sedan to make the competition tougher.
