Maruti Alto Lets Go!
Maruti Alto is another Suzuki car which you can own without burning your pocket. With an efficient engine system and better mileage, no wonder why Alto became the most selling car in India.
Alto is placed between Maruti 800 and the segment starting from Maruti WagonR. It is targeted at middle class families living in cities. Because of high fuel economy and affordability, Maruti Alto is the preferred first car by Indians.
How Alto Became the Favourite Compact Car?
Owning a car used to be just a dream for middle class Indian society till Maruti Udyog made this dream in to a reality by introducing Maruti Alto. It is the first Indian company who offered a powerful and efficient car with least maintenance cost at the most affordable price.
Maruti/Suzuki Alto is the third generation compact cars introduced by Suzuki in 1979. The first versions of Suzuki Alto were introduced in India as Maruti 800 and the later version as Maruti Zen. The current Indian “Maruti Alto” is same as Suzuki Alto GL version.
In the early 90s, with unmatched success of Maruti 800, Maruti Udyog became the supreme power in the compact car segment. As the standard of living of Indians changed, the company adapted their production line to match the requirement of these new generation middle class Indians. It was in 2000 that Maruti decided to integrate the premium-ness in Maruti 800. That led to the origin of Maruti Alto.
Earlier Maruti Udyog tried to experiment by introducing 5-gear Mauti 800, but this decision was abandoned and then introduced Alto. Now, Maruti 800 and Alto is sold at two different pricing segments.
Launched with supreme computer controlled engine system to offer maximum power and better mileage, Alto quickly gained major share in Indian car market.
Highlight & Specialities
The most outstanding functionality of Alto which was not there in Maruti 800 is a five gear system. An exceptionally fuel efficient engine that incurs least maintenance cost and increased mileage (17 -19 Kms per litre) makes it a best seller than 800. The cooling system in Alto is very superior to that in 800.
A pleasing look with the new age design and the variety of vibrant colours makes you proud of being the owner of this cute car. These may be reasons for the wide acceptance of Maruti Alto by various South-east Asian countries and Chile.
Maruti Alto shares its chassis with Wagon R and Zen Estilo. Beautifully designed front bumper gives a cute look to this city Car. The front view is further enhanced by the dynamic grill with Suzuki logo. Artistically tailored head and tail lamps give this car a rich in life look.

I have an alto for 5 years. Recently, I find that the AC blower speed reduces after driving for 10/12km. When it restarts after an hour or so, blower starts with full speed.I always get it repaired at Maruti Authorised dealer. Recently, I had to replace the radiator behind the AC compressor because of leakage. To day the garage have fitted another motor told me to try. Could you tell me the reason?
