Tata’s One Lakh Car “Nano” Unveiled

Tata Motors, today unveiled the much awaited one-lakh car on the New Delhi Auto Expo. The launch of “people’s car” marks the realization of a big dream by Tata Sons Chairman Ratan Tata to make small cars easily affordable for a common person.

He said he wanted to make “a safe, affordable and all weather transport — a people’s car, designed to meet all safety standards and emissions laws and accessible to all” and “a car that most people said could not be manufactured at that price.”

Tata Motors has been working on this project for over a decade and today we found their hard work was fruitful. Ever since the initiation of this project, Tata has been silent with the details of this common person’s car.

Even though it may be the cheapest car in the world, Tata Motors do not want to compromise on the quality as well as environmental factors. This car is made of re-engineered plastic and uses special adhesives make it lighter.

The Nano has a rear-engine design and can easily accommodate 4-5 passengers including the driver. The Tata Nano uses a 624CC engine that can deliver a power of 33bhp.

The Tata Nano has no air conditioning, no electric windows and no power steering for the basic model, although two deluxe models will be on offer.

As promised 5 years ago, Tata will still sell the Nano at Rs.1 lakh. (~$2500), eventhough the manufacturing costs has gone upstate. Tata Motors expects to sell this car from second half of this year.
